The Public Works Project has made exceptional strides in alleviating income insecurity and improving household purchasing power among Yemeni families.
By creating employment opportunities for both skilled and unskilled labor, the project has contributed to building essential infrastructure and delivering vital community services. At a minimum, 35% of the local labor force has been engaged through these interventions, helping to meet urgent needs across beneficiary communities. In total, the project generated one million workdays during 2024 alone.
Beyond employment, the Public Works Project plays a critical role in halting the deterioration of public infrastructure and enhancing the quality of basic services. Its initiatives are designed to improve living standards and address daily needs, while also tackling hunger through support for the agricultural sector. By expanding the area of cultivated land, the project offers targeted solutions to food insecurity and climate-related challenges.
These interventions are particularly vital in the face of prolonged droughts, erratic rainfall patterns, and delays in the agricultural season—factors that have severely impacted food production in Yemeni rain-fed rural areas. The decline in agricultural output has threatened both livelihoods and food access, making the Public Works Project’s contributions indispensable to community resilience and sustainable development.
