The public works project together with the united national development programme, undp, signed last march the project document for the yemen emergency response project, yecrp. The project has received a $70 million funding from the world bank and will be implemented within a period of 24 months.
Yecrp aims at alleviating the impact of the current crises on households and local communities and assist them in the recovery process. This would be done by utilizing local systems and institutional capacities for the gradual restoration of service provision. The project will also contribute to the creation of employment opportunities and short term livelihoods, as well as revitalization of the local private sector. Additionally, the project will restore basic service delivery by supporting infrastructure and improvement of income generation and livelihoods, including for idp’s, the restoration of basic social services and revival of sme’s.
The project is expected to enable yemeni households and local communities to better cope with the worsening living conditions and will be an effective mechanism for capacity building, resilience and recovery.
