186 women community councils have been formed with 6,285 women participated in selection and prioritization of subprojects. In 74 subprojects, the number of women participating exceeded the number of men, thus ensuring selected subproject represents the highest priorities for women.
Efforts to engage women in implementation phase as labor are being made on a continuous basis. This is a new experience in Yemen unique to PWP. Many contractors have shown a willingness to recruit women from local communities for some activities that are appropriate. Based on the redesigned site reporting format, 271 women workers have been engaged in construction activities with an average daily wage of 4,000 riyals.
At the same time, female consultant engineers are engaged in various activities, including supervision of construction. So far, 117 female consultants have been contracted, approximately 12% of the total number of consultants engaged by PWP.
