The Public Works Project (PWP) has succeeded in achieving positive and tangible outcomes in local communities, especially IDPs, those most affected by the current situation, and destitute families unable to make a living.
PWP has succeeded in its outreach to deprived and neglected areas. This fact has been acknowledged by UNDP when it awarded PWP an A+ rating for its performance in the implementation of YECRP projects. The rating was made by a third party firm contracted by UNDP to carry-out an assessment of PWP’s implementation of YECRP subprojects. The assessment was carried out through field visits to completed subprojects and subprojects under implementation.
According to statistics produced by PWP, 816 thousand workdays were created by the end of 2017. The total beneficiaries from community assets built by PWP reached 1.5 million people, 51% were women, an increase of 2.5 times over target figures.
The increase in the number of beneficiaries is attributed to the increase in the number of subprojects implemented -the schools selected were mainly in urban areas and accommodate large numbers of students, and the water sector subprojects complemented larger water networks that serve a large group of people.
