During the Opening Session of a Training Session in the City of Sana’a and the Governorates of Sana’a and Mahweet for 70 Contractors, Engineers and Consultants:

  • Eng. Saeed Abdo Ahmed: Occupational Health and Safety Requirements Are now a Key Component of PWP’s Activities.
  • 1500 Contractors, Technicians and Consultants Trained in OHS to Date.

The Public Works Project Director, Eng. Saeed Abdo Ahmed has Affirmed that the application of OHS requirements has become a key component of the works implemented by PWP. Peoples’ lives and the safety of the community take priority over service provision, he said.

In the opening session of a two-day training session on OHS requirement, organized by PWP, Engineer Saeed Abdo Ahmed stressed the need for compliance by all contractors and engineers in the implementation of OHS requirement, considering it a professional and ethical responsibility. 70 contractors, engineers and consultants are participating in the training.

He pointed out that PWP is intensely carrying out efforts to raise awareness and community advocacy for the implementation of OHS requirement. He said, training and awareness sessions are being held throughout the country where about 1500 contractors, engineers and consultants have already been trained in this field. He noted that a number of training session will also be held during the next few days in all governorates without exceptions.

The PWP’s director pointed out that compliance with OHS requirements will be the real criteria for forging successful partnership between PWP’s management and contractors.

 

Eng. Saeed Abdo Ahmed also said neglect of implementations of these requirements would lead to serious hazards and heavy damages that may lead to failure of the project being implemented - thereby causing heavy economic concerns for all parties concerned – the owner, contractor, suppliers, beneficiaries and the community.

He asked all participants to benefit from the training and to reflect what they learn in the course of implementation of projects. The ultimate objective, he said, is to have people capable of assessing hazards and preventing them before they occur, and enhanced capacities to address OHS requirements issues.

The OHS specialist in PWP, Engineer Mohamed al-Jawlahi, and the national OHS specialist, Dr Mohamed al-Mughalis will conduct the two-day training, which will focus on concepts and ways and means of implementing the requirements based on best practices, and raise awareness of the participants on protection of people, the community and the contractor from all legal liabilities and financial losses that may be caused by neglect and accidents during implementation of projects.
