Combating the Cholera Outbreak

The PWP plays an effective role in combating the cholera outbreak, especially in areas of displacement, and in impoverished areas, by providing safe sources for drinking water, latrines, rehabilitation of sewer networks, and stone-paving of residential neighborhoods to rid them of disease-carrying insects and outbreaks, and has completed:

  1. Construction of 185 water supply, 16 sanitation, and 8 public latrines subprojects.
  2. Chlorination Units have been added to piped water supply networks. Construction of the chlorination units has been completed.  The Red Cross has promised to provide chlorine generators soon.
  3. Awareness campaigns by female social consultant have been conducted. So far, 57,200 material distributed (brochures & posters).
  4. In addition, the PWP has developed a brochure for Diphtheria, and is also being distributed. 4700 brochures have been distributed so far.

During the identification phase, female mobilization teams have contributed to raising awareness on the cholera outbreak by distributing various awareness materials to village women (posters and brochures).  

Additionally, through coordination with some INGOs, “hygiene kits” were distributed in Sana’a, al-Mahweet, Amran, Dhamar, and Mareb.
