Projects implemented by the Public Works Project under the World Bank-funded Emergency Response Program for the Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen - United Nations Development Program (UNDP) achieve economic and social outcomes that citizens experience in their daily lives.
Revenge issue
Paving the road of Bekan area project in the Directorate of Swir, Amran governorate - has ended a problem of disagreement between the people of the region for more than 20 years, causing the killing of a person because of the quarrel on the flow of rain water. But after paving the road, the rainwater flows to the previous situation causing no decline in soil agricultural land and, more importantly, promote a spirit of cooperation and understanding on the common interest instead of rivalry and disagreement.
Job opportunities
Pavement project has achieved the main objective of its implementation which is to create employment opportunities for unemployed youth in the target community, especially the affected groups of the current crisis (residents - displaced people - returnees) .. as well as the rehabilitation of skilled workers in (paving - cut stones - and others).This results in acquiring the worker sustainable skill.
In addition to the direct economic return region's people by reducing the cost of water transportation and facilitating water transfer from the wells in the valleys to high areas which alleviates the suffering of women in bringing water.
Some employees who have been employed in the project have also benefited job opportunities as the were having no source of income to support their families after the salary suspensions.
Environmental Impact:
As a result of the existence of the road in the area of high tendencies and constitute a section of agricultural land in the valleys below the site, the implementation of the road resulted in a positive effect so that the water is clean and free of waste and does not cause demolition of agricultural land .
