Al-Kharba Primary School is the only school for four villages belonging to the rural areas of Mukalla in Hadramout. It has been built by the residents 24 years ago. Since then, it has not undergone any maintenance or restoration to get out of service. It become unmotivated for the residents to encourage their children on the education , especially females.
Field Access to the Public Works Project to study the needs of the people of the Kharba area and the surrounding priority projects, there was a consensus of the families ( women and men) who were met and listened to the need to rehabilitate the basic school of Al-Kharba.
Necessity
Salem Awad Baali, the principal of the school, said that 200 students, including 91 female students, ; Al-Kharba was the only school in four villages. It was built at the expense of the residents since more than 20 years ago and was not undergoing any renovation.
Encourage parents
The Public Works Project intervened to rehabilitate the school. Salim Awad Baali sees the sustainability of education for four communities that almost lost the only school for their children after the name of a school was written on a wooden board without a real building.
He added that the rehabilitation of the school will prevent the dropout process for students, especially female students, and motivate parents to regularize their children in the classroom and to ensure the achievement of education, instead of attending the tests at the mid of the academic year to get a certificate only without any scientific achievement. This refers to non-availability of good educational environment including classes, chairs, etc. which are attractive to students.
