Suna’-Allah Nasser, one of the women of al-Nushaifah in the Governorate of Marib, had married early. She has been facing hard times and going through the bitterness of life, as life has not been good to her. Her husband left her with their less than one-year-old infant and later divorced her.
She was forced to return to her parents’ home, but, they too, are going through hard times and are in dire need. With no recourse to anything else, fetching water from long distances in return for miniscule payments was the only opportunity available for her to feed her infant.
Hardship
Suna’-Allah continued to work going from home to another in the area to make some money to feed her infant child. She would mostly fetch water for them from a water well located very far from the village.
The intervention by the PWP in the area by building a tower-tank was a life-saving opportunity for Suna’-Allah. This saved her the hardship of having to travel long distance daily by foot under the merciless heat of the scorching sun to fetch water.
After the construction of the tower-tank was completed, Suna’-Allah started finding easier work, such as collection of firewood, doing laundry, and cleaning. Because these jobs didn’t take much of her time and were all during the day, Suna’-Allah was able to enroll in literacy classes held in the area in the afternoon.
She is now grateful for the PWP for making this possible by playing a major role in reducing her hardship and giving her an opportunity to learn.
