The Public Works Project, PWP, signed last Monday in Sana'a an agreement to finance the first phase of the Integrated Urban Service Project with the United Nations Office for Project Services, UNOPS. The project is estimated to cost US$10 million and the funding will be channeled through the UNDP.
The World Bank, early November, approved a USD 150 million grant for funding of a new project in Yemen. The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in cooperation with PWP, Road Maintenance Fund, and the Urban Water Projects Management Unit will implement the project.
The field reality confirms that the public works project is racing against time in making the achievement, surpassing the time plan prepared for implementation and achievement.
At a steady pace, the public works project through the Yemen Emergency Response Project to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen (which is financed by United Nations Development Program) continues to target the most vulnerable groups and communities, especially displaced people, women and the poorest families.
The PWP promotes women's participation in priority setting and project selection. 195 subprojects in 15 governorates were identified with women participation -approximately 40% of tendered subprojects so far.
With 108 participants, the Gender Unit in PWP organized a number of training sessions during the past weeks in a number of governorates: Sana'a, Dhamar, Amran, Hodeidah, and the Capital Secretariat.
